The recommended solution for the scenario is to set up a dedicated wireless bridge between the main network and the remote site. A wireless access point will then be set up in the remote site and will be connected to the endpoint bridge via Ethernet.

With that in mind, a pair of EnStationACs will be used as the dedicated wireless bridge while a dual-band outdoor wireless access point such as the EWS650AP will be installed at the pool bar. Using the EnStationAC as the wireless bridge is most suitable as there are more channels available in the 5 GHz band and is usually less congested than the 2.4 GHz band.

Physical Installation:

  1. Use the 5GHz band as the backhaul by selecting a 5 GHz outdoor AP/Bridge with built-in directional antenna like the EnStationAC as the device that is wired to the main network.

  1. The other side has an EnStationAC, mounted facing towards the EnStationAC on the main network. The remote EnStationAC is then hard wired to the dual-band access point.

  1. Make sure that there is a clear line-of-sight and enough clearance for the Fresnel zone.

Please check out the article “Deploying-a-Point-to-Multi-Point-Backhaul-Network” as reference.

Recommended Settings:

  1. Set the EnStationACs in WDS Bridge mode to set up a WDS Bridge-to-WDS Bridge wireless link.

  1. Select a DFS channel with 80 MHz channel width, such as channel 52, 100, or 116.

  1. The Dual-band AP will be set in Access Point mode to serve the wireless client devices.

On the dual-band AP for the 2.4 GHz Wireless:

  • Perform an AP Scan for other 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi sources. Please take note of the channels used and their corresponding signal strengths.

  • Set the Channel HT mode to 20 MHz only and disable auto-channel. Set the wireless frequency/channel to the least congested 2.4GHz non-overlapping channel i.e. 1, 6, or 11.

  • WPA2-PSK(AES only) is the recommended wireless security setting.

On the dual-band AP for 5 GHz Wireless:

  • Perform an AP Scan (Electron) or Enable Background Scanning (Neutron) for other 5 GHz Wi-Fi sources. Please take note of the channels used and their corresponding signal strengths.

  • Set the Channel HT mode to “40 MHz” and disable auto-channel. Set the wireless frequency/channel to the least congested non-DFS 5 GHz non-overlapping channel (36, 44, 149, or 157).

  • WPA2-PSK(AES only) is the recommended wireless security setting.
